Description: Likely the most popular of all aquarium carpeting plants, Monte Carlo is a staple plant in most aquascaping setups. With sufficient lighting it will spread horizontally along the substrate and overtime form a dense carpet. In low-tech conditions, it will grow more vertically, reaching up towards the light, but a carpet is still possible. A fertile substrate is not considered necessary for this plant as many hobbyists have successfully grown it on wood and rocks.
Difficulty: As with all aquarium plants, Co2 injection and appropriate fertilisation are recommended for optimal health and growth. Monte Carlo can be grown in low-tech conditions, but it will not reach its full potential.
Emersed Growth: Monte Carlo grows incredibly easily in its emersed form. A few trimmings can be thrown into a tub with some kind of substrate and left in indirect sunlight. Within 6 weeks a prominent carpet will be forming.
